BREAKING: Pittsburgh Steelers Re-Sign Reliable Scorer With 155 Career Points
On Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced the signing of a familiar face to the organization as they work to fill their roster to 90 players before the start of offseason workouts. The team has added kicker Matthew Wright, who previously scored 43 points with the team during the 2022 season.
Wright has had multiple stints with the Steelers, initially joining the team as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He was released before the start of the season and later played in the XFL with the Tampa Bay Vipers. He returned to the Steelers in 2020, initially signing to the practice squad before being elevated to the gameday roster. During that season, he played in three games, successfully converting all four of his field goal attempts, including a long of 46 yards, and was perfect on seven extra point attempts.
In 2022, the Steelers signed Wright to the 53-man roster from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad while their regular kicker, Chris Boswell, was dealing with an injury. Wright played in four games for the Steelers, making 12 of 14 field goal attempts, with a long of 52 yards, and converting all seven extra point attempts.
Throughout his four seasons, Wright has scored a total of 155 points. He has an impressive field goal success rate of 40 out of 47 attempts (85.7%) and has converted 35 out of 37 extra point attempts (94.6%). Wright’s career-long field goal of 59 yards occurred while he was with the Chiefs during the 2022 season.
