The Jets’ general manager reflects on the possibility of regret regarding the decision to trade for Aaron Rodgers.
Exactly one year has passed since the New York Jets acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers, yet the 40-year-old future Hall of Famer has not thrown a single pass for the team. Despite Rodgers’ lack of on-field action and the cost of a second-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, Jets general manager Joe Douglas remains unwavering in his stance, expressing no regrets over the deal when questioned by ESPN.
“We don’t have a second-round pick this year, and if I had the choice of having the second-round pick and not having Aaron, I would take Aaron 15 times out of 10,” Douglas asserted. He emphasized Rodgers’ invaluable leadership qualities and positive impact on the team both on and off the field.
Although Rodgers’ acquisition was intended to bolster the Jets’ chances of making their first postseason appearance since 2010, the team still faces significant challenges. Despite investing resources to surround Rodgers with talent, the Jets are considered underdogs in the AFC East, trailing behind the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
Despite the absence of a second-round pick due to the Rodgers trade, the Jets hold the 10th overall pick in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft. They are expected to use this pick to strengthen their offensive line, add a wide receiver, or possibly select Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.
The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled to commence on Thursday, April 25, with Round 1, followed by Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday, and Rounds 4 through 7 on Saturday.
