Carolina Panthers Release Running Back Tarik Cohen

The Carolina Panthers have officially parted ways with running back Tarik Cohen.

Cohen, a former standout at North Carolina A&T, was signed by the Panthers last autumn, initially joining the team’s practice squad. Since tearing his ACL in 2020, he hasn’t seen action in an NFL regular-season game.

Starting his journey at Bunn High School, Cohen’s path led him to North Carolina A&T, where he emerged as the school and MEAC’s top rusher, ranking second among all-time HBCU football stars. He garnered attention both on and off the field, showcasing his skills through social media and dominant performances.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, Cohen swiftly established himself as one of the league’s most versatile backs. His achievements include a Pro Bowl selection as a return man during the 2018 season, just before signing a contract extension with Chicago. However, his progress was halted by an ACL injury.

While rehabilitating his ACL in 2022, Cohen encountered another setback, delaying his comeback for over a year. Last fall, he signed with the Carolina Panthers, returning to his home state.

Reflecting on his decision to stay close to home, Cohen emphasized the importance of family support during challenging times.

The announcement of Cohen’s release from the Panthers was reported by HBCU Gameday.
