Colts: Players Poised to Secure Roster Spots for the Upcoming Season

Trimming down the roster is a challenging part of NFL operations, affecting players, coaches, and organizations alike. For the Indianapolis Colts, like all teams, only 53 players can secure a spot, necessitating tough decisions.

Here’s an assessment of three current Colts who are unlikely to make the final cut for the 2024 season.

1. Tyrie Cleveland, Wide Receiver:
Cleveland spent the previous season on the Colts’ practice squad without making a game appearance. With solid depth at wide receiver, including Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce, and the potential for draft additions, Cleveland’s chances of securing a roster spot appear slim unless he distinguishes himself significantly.

2. Marcel Dabo, Safety:
Dabo has been with the Colts since 2022 but has yet to play in a regular-season game. While the team could use additional safety support alongside Julian Blackmon, Dabo hasn’t showcased enough to warrant on-field opportunities. With potential draft acquisitions, Dabo’s position becomes even less secure.

3. Tyler Goodson, Running Back:
Goodson’s notable drop in the Week 18 loss to the Houston Texans lingers in Colts fans’ memories. With Jonathan Taylor expected to dominate carries and depth provided by Trey Sermon and Evan Hull, Goodson faces an uphill battle. Further, the possibility of drafting another back adds pressure, potentially rendering Goodson expendable.
