Duke’s Young Center Joins Packers as 163rd Pick

In an exciting development for Duke football, Jacob Monk, the team’s standout center, has been drafted 163rd overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 2024 NFL Draft. This marks only the second time in 28 years that Duke has had three players selected in a single draft, highlighting the program’s growing prominence.

Monk, a versatile five-year offensive lineman and two-time team captain, has been a crucial part of the Blue Devil offensive line throughout his college career. His adaptability saw him transition from right tackle to right guard to center, a testament to his skill and football intelligence.

This past season, Monk’s performance earned him second-team All-ACC honors as he helped Duke’s offensive line allow just 1.31 sacks per game. His contributions were also recognized previously with two honorable mention All-ACC selections and the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week award following Duke’s victory over N.C. State.

Hailing from Clayton, North Carolina, Monk has started an impressive 58 games for the Blue Devils. His leadership on and off the field has been instrumental, especially during a period of significant turnover within the team’s offense last season. Monk’s consistency and dedication have made him a standout player and a leader among his peers.

Monk is not the only Duke player to achieve NFL dreams this year. He joins fellow offensive lineman Graham Barton and defensive lineman DeWayne Carter, both of whom were also drafted, marking a notable achievement for Duke football.
