Exclusive: Bears’ Coach Matt Eberflus Unveils Caleb Williams’ Game-Changing Focus for Ultimate Improvement

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus acknowledges the inevitable learning curve for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, observing its early signs during practice sessions. Discussing Williams this week, Eberflus emphasized the critical need for improvement in his cadence, highlighting pre-snap penalties as a key area requiring refinement.

“In practice, we’ve seen instances where cadence needs fine-tuning,” Eberflus noted, as reported by Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago. “Today, we saw several offside penalties, something we need to address and rectify in the coming days. It’s essential for Caleb to adapt, especially considering he didn’t use cadence at USC.”

Eberflus stressed the importance of repetition in mastering cadence, underscoring its strategic value in offensive playcalling. With the Bears committing six pre-snap penalties during Tuesday’s practice, the urgency for improvement is evident.

“Honestly, it comes down to reps,” Eberflus added. “Cadence is a weapon in the offense; it can’t be static. We need to employ double, triple, and dummy counts, along with silent counts, to keep defenses guessing.”

As the Bears gear up for the 2024 season, expectations are high amidst Williams’ arrival and significant roster additions. However, with challenges ahead in a competitive NFC North division and areas for improvement within the team, patience remains a virtue for Chicago fans craving postseason success after years of drought.
