The Los Angeles Chargers today signed rookie wide receiver

The Los Angeles Chargers have officially signed rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey, the 34th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. With this signing, the Chargers have now secured contracts with all nine members of their 2024 draft class, solidifying their roster for the upcoming season.

McConkey played a pivotal role in Georgia’s College Football Playoff National Championship victory in 2022. His standout performance earned him second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors. During that championship season, he achieved career highs with 58 receptions, 762 receiving yards, and seven touchdown catches.

In the National Championship game, McConkey showcased his talent by making five catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns, along with a 14-yard carry. He also excelled as a punt returner, averaging 12.3 yards per return and amassing 197 yards on 16 returns.

Over his three seasons at Georgia (2021-2023), following a redshirt year in 2020, McConkey demonstrated consistent excellence. He recorded 119 receptions for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 14.2 yards per catch. Additionally, he contributed four rushing touchdowns and 216 yards on the ground. In 2023, McConkey was awarded the prestigious Wuerffel Trophy, which honors the player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. He was also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, known as the ‘Academic Heisman.’

McConkey’s selection marks a significant milestone for the Chargers, as he becomes the highest-drafted Georgia Bulldog in the team’s history and the first wide receiver chosen by the Bolts in the second round since Vincent Jackson in 2005. His addition to the roster brings both talent and versatility, promising an exciting future for the Chargers’ offense.
