The LA Chargers made their most surprising move of the offseason by trading longtime fan favorite wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Despite the Chargers’ attempts to extend Allen’s contract, including proposing a pay cut, he declined, prompting the team to trade him for salary cap reasons.
Allen now joins a dynamic Bears team that has added Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze to its offensive arsenal. With Allen’s arrival, Chicago appears poised to become a standout story in the upcoming season. Notably, Allen is not the only former Charger to join this promising Bears offense.
Following Allen’s acquisition, the Bears also signed former Chargers tight end Gerald Everett to a two-year contract, enhancing the offensive firepower that was previously seen with Justin Herbert in LA.
Adding to the mix, Chicago continued its trend of acquiring former Chargers by signing return specialist DeAndre Carter to a one-year deal. Carter, who excelled in both returning and playing an unexpected offensive role due to injuries in the Chargers’ receiving corps last season, brings valuable depth and reliability under the league’s new kickoff rules for the upcoming season.
As the projected starter at returner for the Bears, Carter faces competition, but his experience and versatility could secure him a significant role on what promises to be an exciting team in 2024.
