Giants’ GM Joe Schoen Mulls Adding Veteran Receiver Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas #13

The New York Giants are gearing up for a revamped look in the upcoming 2024 season, but General Manager Joe Schoen is not resting on his laurels just yet. Following Darren Waller’s retirement, which freed up some cap space, Schoen has the opportunity to make another impactful addition to the roster.

One name that has surfaced in discussions is veteran wide receiver Michael Thomas. Despite recent injury setbacks, Thomas showcased his enduring talent with 39 receptions for 448 yards and a touchdown in just 10 games last season. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 212 pounds, Thomas remains a formidable pass-catching threat known for his precise route-running and reliability in critical situations.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes Thomas could bring immediate value to the Giants’ offense, complementing rising stars like Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, and Wan’Dale Robinson. With Nabers poised to lead the receiving corps, Thomas offers seasoned experience and could fill any potential gaps left by offseason moves.

While the Giants appear solid on paper at wide receiver, uncertainty looms over Slayton’s future, with trade rumors swirling as he enters the final year of his contract. Should Slayton depart, Thomas could emerge as a cost-effective solution, with Knox projecting a potential deal around $3 million for the 2024 campaign.

Although Schoen’s primary focus remains bolstering the secondary, the allure of adding a player of Thomas’ caliber cannot be ignored. With three Pro Bowl selections and two First-Team All-Pro honors to his name, Thomas represents both pedigree and proven ability, making him a tantalizing option for the Giants’ offense.

As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on East Rutherford to see if Schoen moves to secure Thomas, potentially adding another dynamic dimension to the Giants’ aerial attack.
