The Green Bay Packers, like many NFL teams, began their annual training camp on Monday. The start of camp was marked by positive news on Sunday night as three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark signed a three-year, $64 million contract extension to stay with the team.

Clark became only the third Packers player to receive a third contract from the organization since Ted Thompson became general manager in 2005, joining four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and five-time All-Pro David Bakhtiari.

However, the positive momentum surrounding the Packers and contract agreements was short-lived. Before the start of training camp on Monday morning, general manager Brian Gutekunst announced that quarterback Jordan Love would not participate in on-field practices until his contract extension was finalized.

The Green Bay Packers are still negotiating a contract extension for Jordan Love.

Although both the Packers and Jordan Love had hoped to finalize a deal by the start of training camp, this could not be accomplished. Notably, Love is not holding out; he is at the Packers’ practice facility but is not participating in practices.

As shown in the video above, there is clearly no animosity between Jordan Love and head coach Matt LaFleur; this is merely a business matter in the NFL.

Earlier today, it was reported that the primary issue in the contract negotiations between the Packers and Love is financial. According to the report, the situation now depends on Green Bay to address the financial concerns.

The Green Bay Packers still need to finalize a contract extension for quarterback Jordan Love.

As training camp begins, there is still no news of a contract extension for quarterback Jordan Love. The Packers decided to trade four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets last offseason to make way for Love as the starting quarterback. Love responded by delivering one of the best seasons ever for a Packers quarterback in their first year starting.

Quarterback Statistics:

– **Jordan Love**: 64.2% completion rate, 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 96.1 passer rating
– **Aaron Rodgers**: 63.6% completion rate, 4,038 yards, 28 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 93.8 passer rating
– **Brett Favre**: 64.1% completion rate, 3,227 yards, 18 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 85.3 passer rating

Before last season started, Love had agreed to a two-year deal with the Packers that included a raise for 2023 and bought out his fifth-year option for 2024. However, his impressive performance, especially in the latter part of the season, has shown that he is the Packers’ long-term solution at quarterback.

With 2024 being the final year of his current contract, both Green Bay and Love are eager to reach a longer-term agreement that would keep him as the Packers’ quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Both sides had hoped to finalize the deal before the start of training camp, but no agreement has been reached yet.

NFL insider Mike Florio recently reported for Pro Football Talk:

“We’ve looked into the negotiations and it seems the ball is currently in the team’s court. While the main sticking point appears to be financial rather than structural, such contracts involve various components.”

The contract Love is negotiating could potentially be the richest in franchise history and might even make him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Love is attending training camp despite the lack of a finalized deal, so there’s no need for concern among fans. Both parties are motivated to reach an agreement, so it’s expected that a deal will be completed. Additionally, Green Bay likely would not have extended Kenny Clark with a three-year deal if they were not planning to secure Love’s future.
