In a strategic move aimed at strengthening their defensive front, the Carolina Panthers have signed defensive lineman Jayden Peevy. This decision was confirmed by the Panthers just ahead of their Saturday practice, and the news was first reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Peevy, who had previously been with the Panthers on their practice squad during part of the 2023 season, returns to a team where he is already familiar with the system. His presence should bring added depth and experience to a defensive line that continues to be a focal point of improvement under General Manager Dan Morgan.

Prior to rejoining the Panthers, Peevy had a stint with the Cleveland Browns during the 2023 season. His recent practice with the team further indicates his readiness and the Panthers’ intention to integrate him quickly into their defensive schemes.

The timing of Peevy’s signing is particularly noteworthy given recent developments on the Panthers’ roster. The team was at 89 players after the release of waiver-claim Caden Sterns on Thursday. Additionally, rookie defensive end Jaden Crumedy left Thursday’s game with an ankle injury and did not return, making Peevy’s addition both timely and potentially crucial.

Peevy, a Texas A&M product, had an impressive college career from 2017 to 2021. He amassed 138 total tackles, including 20.0 for a loss, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, and seven passes defended. Despite entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Peevy’s collegiate performance demonstrated the skill set and tenacity that could make a significant impact on the Panthers’ defensive line.

With Peevy back in the mix, the Panthers are enhancing their defensive front as they head into the critical stages of their preparation. The team hopes that his familiarity with their system and his proven track record will contribute to a more robust and formidable defensive unit.
