In a setback for the Cleveland Browns, backup center Luke Wypler fractured his right ankle during Saturday’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, as announced by coach Kevin Stefanski post-game. Wypler, a sixth-round draft pick from 2023, will undergo surgery to address the injury.

The unfortunate incident occurred with 11:58 left in the second quarter, following a 7-yard completion from quarterback Tyler Huntley to running back Pierre Strong Jr. Wypler was promptly carted off the field, and the team’s medical staff quickly applied an air cast to his lower leg before he was transported to the X-ray room.

This injury adds to the Browns’ woes at the center position. Starting center Brian Allen had already been placed on injured reserve earlier in training camp due to a calf injury, further straining the team’s depth.

The Browns’ misfortune did not end with Wypler. Wide receiver David Bell also left the game with a quadriceps injury, casting another shadow over the team’s roster depth as the preseason progresses. The team will be closely monitoring both players’ recovery while trying to adjust their strategies moving forward.
