Giants Kicker to Miss 6-8 Weeks with Hamstring Injury from Week 2

Injury troubles persist for New York Giants kicker Graham Gano, who will be sidelined for “a few weeks” due to a hamstring injury suffered in Week 2, according to head coach Brian Daboll (via Dan Salomone of Giants.com).

Gano, who had been managing a groin issue before the game against the Washington Commanders, attempted to play but injured his hamstring on the opening kickoff while trying to make a tackle. He appeared to be in significant pain and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The Giants’ decision to not have an extra kicker on the roster in Week 2 proved costly, as they were unable to attempt any field goals or extra points, contributing to their 21-18 loss. This game also marked the first time in NFL history that a team scored three touchdowns and allowed none yet lost in regulation, as noted by CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr.

With Gano’s absence expected to continue, the Giants will be evaluating other kickers this week and have practice squad kicker Jude McAtamney available. The team is looking to avoid the mistake of not having a backup kicker, which became evident after Gano’s injury.

Gano has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, missing the last nine games of the previous year due to a leg issue. He currently holds the second-highest field goal percentage in franchise history at 87.9% and was perfect on his kicks this season before his recent injury.
