The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a mixed spot after a 20-15 victory over the New York Giants in Week 4, bringing their record to 2-2. Despite the close win and a somewhat slow start to the season, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn’t hitting the panic button just yet. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan, Jones addressed the team’s performance so far and reassured fans that brighter days are ahead.

Jerry Jones Focusing on the Bigger Picture

Jones acknowledged the team’s early struggles, including two losses—one to the New Orleans Saints (44-19) and another to the Baltimore Ravens (28-25)—but he’s more focused on long-term success. His message is clear: a strong finish matters more than a hot start.

“Look for the positives. Look for us to be improving,” Jones said. “I’m interested in building toward the crescendo of getting in the playoffs, and then being a much better team than we are today when we get to the playoffs. I think that’s what you’re seeing.”

Jones emphasized that he’d rather see the Cowboys peak later in the season rather than burn out early. The ultimate goal is postseason success, not just regular-season dominance. “If someone had come to you before the season started and said, ‘Would you rather us struggle a little bit during the season, or knock it out of the park during the season and lose early in the playoffs?’… There’s no question everybody would say, ‘Man, have a little less season and a little more playoffs.’”

Mike McCarthy Applauds Cowboys’ Resilience

Head coach Mike McCarthy echoed some of Jones’ sentiments after the team’s win over the Giants, praising the resilience and unity in the locker room. “Winning is always a great thing, especially on the road… Division games, you’re going to add another layer to it,” McCarthy said in his postgame remarks. “We feel great about what we accomplished tonight but I think for the fourth week in a row, we realized that we have a lot of work to do.”

Despite the ups and downs, McCarthy expressed confidence in the “healthy” culture within the Cowboys’ locker room. He emphasized the importance of internal focus, even when outside noise suggests otherwise. “I think we do a really good job internally focusing on what we’re doing every day,” he noted. “These guys didn’t blink. They came in here Monday, and I thought they were very accountable.”

McCarthy also highlighted the strength of the leadership group, saying, “I think this is as healthy a locker room, leadership group that we’ve had in my time here. And, I think everything that needed to be said was said.”

Looking Ahead

As the Cowboys prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they’ll need to build on the momentum from their win over the Giants. With Jones keeping his eye on long-term goals and McCarthy fostering a strong locker room environment, the Cowboys are setting their sights on a deep postseason run, even if their 2-2 start has raised some eyebrows.

For now, patience is key in Dallas, as both the owner and head coach seem to be banking on improvement throughout the rest of the season, with a focus on peaking at the right time.
