Chiefs Urged to Target Super Bowl Champ Robert Woods Over Davante Adams in Potential Trade

The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-0, one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the NFL, following their gritty 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Despite their unblemished record, holes in the offense, particularly at the wide receiver position, have become glaring.

Rumors have swirled about Kansas City being a potential trade destination for Raiders star Davante Adams. While a talent like Adams would certainly elevate the Chiefs’ offense, the price tag in draft capital and salary could be prohibitive. The Raiders would likely demand significant compensation, and depending on how much of Adams’ contract they would absorb, the financial hit could create problems for the Chiefs.

Enter Robert Woods, a veteran wide receiver who could offer a more practical solution. On Tuesday, Bleacher Report suggested that the Chiefs pursue a trade for Woods, a former Super Bowl winner with the Rams who now finds himself buried on the Texans’ depth chart. Woods’ role has diminished since the arrival of former Bills star Stefon Diggs in Houston, and he’s been limited to just three catches for 28 yards over five games this season.

Though Woods has seen a decrease in production, his experience as a reliable complementary piece could prove invaluable to Kansas City’s offense. As Bleacher Report noted, “Woods has shown he can still be a complementary piece in a good offense, but the Texans’ depth at receiver has relegated him to a tiny role in Houston.”

The 32-year-old wideout enjoyed his peak years from 2018-2020, racking up 266 receptions and 3,289 receiving yards over those three seasons. While Woods may not carry the same flash as Adams, he would come at a fraction of the cost and could fit perfectly into the Chiefs’ offense.

The question remains, however, whether Houston would be willing to trade Woods to the Chiefs, given Kansas City’s standing as the only AFC team with a better record than the Texans (4-1). Still, Kansas City has a proven track record of rejuvenating players who have struggled elsewhere. JuJu Smith-Schuster, for example, appeared washed up with the Patriots last season, yet logged an impressive seven catches for 130 yards in Monday night’s win.

If the Chiefs believe they can work similar magic with Woods, he could emerge as the perfect fit to round out their receiving corps. A trade for the veteran wideout might not be the blockbuster move fans have been dreaming of, but it could be exactly what Kansas City needs to keep their unbeaten season alive.
