Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb is on the verge of making a long-awaited return to the field, following a devastating knee injury suffered in Week 2 of last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. As Chubb prepares for his comeback, he reflected on the injury, the emotions surrounding it, and the unwavering support from the Browns organization and the city of Cleveland in a heartfelt piece for The Players’ Tribune.

In his article, Chubb opened up about the raw thoughts that ran through his mind when he went down that fateful night. He recalled how eerie the moment felt—teammates gathering around him, offering words of support, and even players from the opposing Steelers team kneeling in prayer.

“Damn, I really did that s*** again,” Chubb said, describing his initial reaction. “When you get hurt like I got hurt, you don’t even really feel anything. But you hear everything.”

For Chubb, the surreal experience was a stark reminder of the toll injuries take on a player’s career. Yet, despite the seriousness of the situation, the Browns never wavered in their support for their star back. Widely regarded as one of the NFL’s best pure runners, Chubb has been a cornerstone of Cleveland’s offense, making four Pro Bowls and averaging over 5 yards per carry in each season of his career.

Entering the offseason, Chubb faced uncertainty due to his contract situation. With no guaranteed money remaining on his three-year, $36.6 million deal, many thought the Browns might cut ties. However, Cleveland chose a different route, renegotiating his contract and reducing his cap hit by nearly $10 million for the 2024 season.

“When my agent called me to tell me the news, he said, ‘I’ve never actually had a front office tell me anything like this. But they said that part of the reason they never entertained cutting you is because of how much you mean to the city,'” Chubb shared.

This show of faith from the Browns and the city’s support left a lasting impression on Chubb. In response, he’s motivated to give back to the fans and the organization that stood by him during his recovery.

“There’s only one thing left to do now,” Chubb declared. “I gotta pay ya back.”

Chubb’s return is not just a story of physical recovery—it’s a testament to his resilience, loyalty, and commitment to the city of Cleveland. With his comeback imminent, Browns fans are eager to see their star running back resume his role as a game-changing force on the field.
