Veteran safety Jamal Adams is on the hunt for a new team after being released by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. The move was confirmed by the team but lacked specifics on the reasoning. According to reports, the decision was mutual, with Adams requesting his release due to frustrations over limited playing time.
Adams, a three-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro, had signed a veteran minimum deal with Tennessee during the offseason, choosing the Titans for the chance to reunite with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. The two had worked together previously with the New York Jets when Adams was drafted sixth overall in 2017. Despite the promising reunion, things didn’t go as planned for either side.
The former star safety played just 20 snaps over three games, recording four tackles. It’s believed the team wasn’t ready to expand his role, as Adams missed significant time during training camp. His dissatisfaction with his limited role eventually led to his request for a release, which the Titans granted.
Titans’ defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson spoke briefly on the situation, saying, “At this point, we wish Jamal all the best going forward. It just didn’t work out here, but he’ll have great success wherever he goes.”
Adams was a dominant force in the NFL between 2018 and 2020, earning multiple All-Pro selections. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered his career since, including a torn labrum in 2021 and a torn quad tendon that limited him to just one game in 2022. In 2023, Adams returned to the field with the Seattle Seahawks but struggled to regain his peak form, finishing with 48 tackles and two passes defended across nine games.
As Adams now looks for his next NFL opportunity, it remains to be seen if another team will take a chance on the veteran safety. Despite his injury history, his track record of success could make him an intriguing pickup for teams in need of defensive help.
