The Atlanta Falcons have made some significant roster moves ahead of their upcoming game, placing outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter on injured reserve. Carter, who entered the NFL’s concussion protocol this week, was initially sidelined due to what the Falcons reported as an illness. However, it was later confirmed that Carter had suffered a concussion, ruling him out for the foreseeable future.
Carter has been a reliable presence on the Falcons’ defense, contributing 11 tackles and two quarterback hits in six games. He’s been on the field for 50% of the team’s defensive snaps and also played 23% of the special teams snaps, making his absence notable. The 2018 third-round pick by the New York Giants joined Atlanta in 2022 and quickly became a key part of their defense.

In Carter’s absence, the Falcons are expected to rely on James Smith-Williams to step into the starting role. Additionally, second-year edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie could see an increase in playing time as Atlanta looks to maintain pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
To fill Carter’s roster spot, the Falcons signed veteran cornerback Kevin King to the active roster. King, a former second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers, brings valuable experience to Atlanta’s secondary as they look to solidify their defense.
The Falcons also made further adjustments, elevating cornerback Natrone Brooks and defensive lineman Demone Harris from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game. These moves highlight the team’s commitment to staying flexible and competitive despite the challenges posed by injuries.
