As Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders leads the Buffaloes to their best record in nearly a decade, his NFL draft stock continues to rise.
USA Today’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz predicts Sanders could be the first quarterback selected in the 2024 draft, with the New York Giants taking him with the No. 2 overall pick. Middlehurst-Schwartz also highlighted that Sanders’ father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, may use his influence to ensure his son lands with a team of their choosing. The Giants, he suggests, could be the perfect fit.
Middlehurst-Schwartz writes that pairing Sanders with the Giants, under head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, could be a beneficial move for both sides. “The Giants could turn the page on Daniel Jones’ era by bringing in a poised passer who can carve up defenses with his accuracy,” he noted. Despite a tough season for the Giants, Middlehurst-Schwartz points out they have a strong foundation in place, including promising rookie talents like wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., along with an improving offensive line once left tackle Andrew Thomas returns from a season-ending injury.
Meanwhile, the future of Daniel Jones with the Giants is uncertain. Having struggled to meet expectations after signing a $160 million extension in 2023, there are growing doubts about his future in New York. ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested Jones may never play another snap for the Giants, citing concerns over his $23 million injury guarantee, which could lead to him being benched sooner rather than later.
Shedeur Sanders has been instrumental in Colorado’s 7-2 record, completing 72.9% of his passes for an average of 320.6 yards per game. He has thrown 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions.
