Browns Legend Claims Top College QB Would Snub the Team.

The 2025 NFL Draft is already shaping up to be full of drama, with Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders emerging as a projected top pick. However, Deion Sanders, NFL legend and Shedeur’s father, has made it clear that he won’t let his son play for the “wrong” team—especially if it means ending up with the Cleveland Browns.

Shedeur Sanders: 'Put all these guys in the same position I was in and they couldn't do that' - On3

Former Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs believes the Browns could be one of those undesirable destinations for Shedeur. While Cribbs is in favor of the Browns pursuing a veteran quarterback, he’s adamant about one point:

“Deion is not gonna let Shedeur come to Cleveland.”

Coach Prime, who also serves as head coach at Colorado, seems to be carefully managing his son’s NFL path, and the Browns don’t appear to fit into his plans. Cleveland is facing significant financial challenges, notably the massive $46 million salary commitments to quarterback Deshaun Watson for both 2025 and 2026. These financial pressures could hamper Shedeur’s early career development, something Deion Sanders likely wants to avoid.

The Browns’ current offensive struggles also raise red flags—lack of a proven No. 1 receiver, a declining offensive line, and an overall underperforming unit. These issues leave little room to address essential roster needs, which could stifle the growth of any young quarterback, let alone a potential franchise player.

Given Cleveland’s historical challenges and current financial constraints, it seems increasingly unlikely that Shedeur will be wearing a Browns jersey anytime soon. Cribbs’ assessment suggests that Cleveland may need to explore other options for their quarterback of the future.
