Veteran Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell is expected to be released if or when Miami is officially eliminated from playoff contention. The Vikings are among the many teams likely to show interest in adding him for a potential playoff push.
In an article published on Friday, Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly emphasized that Campbell deserves a “proper sendoff.” Entering his 17th NFL season, Campbell is eager for one last chance at a Super Bowl run.
Kelly reported that the Ravens had expressed interest in trading for Campbell at the deadline, but Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel persuaded him to stay, with the assurance that he would be released if the Dolphins were eliminated. With only two regular season games remaining, Miami’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread.
Kelly identified the Ravens, Chiefs, Lions, and Vikings as potential destinations for Campbell. He also mentioned that teams like the Lions or Vikings might put in a waiver claim to prevent the Chiefs from acquiring Campbell.
At 38 years old, Campbell remains a force on the field. This season, he has logged 533 defensive snaps and earned an 83.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF). He has also recorded 34 pressures and four sacks.
Despite his age, Campbell brings unmatched experience, having made deep playoff runs with the Cardinals, Ravens, and Jaguars. While adding a 38-year-old defensive lineman may not drastically improve the Vikings’ Super Bowl chances, it could certainly bolster their hopes of a deep postseason run.
