Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is highly sought after for head coaching interviews during the team’s bye week, with all six teams with open positions requesting interviews. However, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Glenn turned down the New England Patriots’ interview request.
While coaches with teams on a bye week are permitted to conduct interviews from Wednesday to Monday, the Lions have shortened this window for Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to Thursday afternoon through Saturday. This left Glenn with only two days to potentially cram in six interviews, which seemed unmanageable.
Glenn had already scheduled his interviews with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chicago Bears. With so little time, it makes sense why he declined the Patriots’ interview. Additionally, many believe former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is the favorite for the Patriots’ job, making Glenn’s interest in their search unclear.
Glenn is likely being selective about where he invests his time, with the Saints and Jets viewed as the primary contenders for his services.
