49ers Poised to Make Brock Purdy Highest-Paid Player in Franchise History
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is on the verge of a massive payday, with experts predicting he could land the most lucrative contract in franchise history. ESPN’s Dan Graziano projected contracts for upcoming free agents and extension-eligible players, and Purdy’s next deal is expected to place him among the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks.
Purdy’s Potential Mega-Deal
Currently, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott holds the league’s top salary at $60 million per year. While Purdy may not reach that figure, Graziano estimates he could sign a four-year, $196 million contract, including $112 million guaranteed—a staggering jump from his current $5 million cap hit.
“The 49ers don’t have a fifth-year option on Purdy since he wasn’t a first-round pick,” Graziano explained. “If he plays out the 2025 season, he’d either hit free agency or receive the franchise tag in 2026. Given his success—leading the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl—both sides recognize it’s time for a significant raise.”
49ers and Purdy’s Contract Negotiations
San Francisco holds some leverage, as they could franchise-tag Purdy in 2026 if talks stall. However, both parties are eager to finalize a deal quickly to ensure his full participation in offseason activities.
Graziano compared Purdy’s potential contract to Daniel Jones’ four-year, $160 million deal with the New York Giants but expects a higher valuation due to Purdy’s superior performance and inflation adjustments. “People I’ve spoken to believe the framework could build off Jones’ contract but be adjusted upward,” Graziano noted.
Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard echoed this sentiment, reporting that negotiations between the 49ers and Purdy’s camp are expected to proceed smoothly. “Sources indicate that both sides feel confident in reaching an agreement without major hurdles,” Kawakami shared. “However, the deal structure may differ slightly from recent QB contracts.”
What Purdy’s Contract Means for the 49ers’ Future
Securing Purdy’s long-term future is one of the most crucial moves for the 49ers this offseason. A swift agreement would eliminate distractions and solidify their young quarterback as the franchise’s cornerstone.
With the 2025 season approaching, locking in Purdy would provide stability for the team while affirming his place among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
