“The 49ers don’t have a fifth-year option on Purdy since he wasn’t a first-round pick,” Graziano explained. “If he plays out the 2025 season, he’d either hit free agency or receive the franchise tag in 2026. Given his success—leading the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl—both sides recognize it’s time for a significant raise.”

Graziano compared Purdy’s potential contract to Daniel Jones’ four-year, $160 million deal with the New York Giants but expects a higher valuation due to Purdy’s superior performance and inflation adjustments. “People I’ve spoken to believe the framework could build off Jones’ contract but be adjusted upward,” Graziano noted.
Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard echoed this sentiment, reporting that negotiations between the 49ers and Purdy’s camp are expected to proceed smoothly. “Sources indicate that both sides feel confident in reaching an agreement without major hurdles,” Kawakami shared. “However, the deal structure may differ slightly from recent QB contracts.”
