NFL receiver Kadarius Toney, who spent much of the 2024 season on the Cleveland Browns practice squad, was arrested in Georgia over the weekend after being accused of assaulting and strangling a woman, according to reports.
TMZ Sports first reported on Toney’s arrest, citing police documents. The incident allegedly took place on January 14 at a residence in Douglasville, Georgia, based on court records from Douglas County.
A court-issued arrest warrant shows that Toney, 26, is accused of choking the victim to the point where she couldn’t breathe. The woman reportedly suffered visible marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.
The warrant also states that Toney prevented the victim from calling 911 by canceling her attempts to seek help while continuing to assault her.
ESPN reports that Toney was booked on February 6 in Georgia on charges of aggravated assault — strangulation and obstructing/harassing 911 calls. His bond was set at $25,000 for each charge, according to the outlet.
Toney won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and 2023. In Super Bowl LVII, he scored a crucial touchdown in the Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Eagles and helped set up another score with a 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter.
After becoming a free agent, Toney joined the Browns practice squad in September. He played in only three games, failing to record a reception on one target and rushing twice for minus-4 yards.
