Andy Reid Addresses Future with Chiefs, Reflects on Super Bowl Loss

For more than a decade, Andy Reid has been the driving force behind the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominance. Since taking over as head coach in 2013, Reid has led the franchise to nine consecutive AFC West titles, three Super Bowl victories, and helped mold Patrick Mahomes into the face of the NFL. But following the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, speculation has emerged regarding Reid’s future in Kansas City.
How Much Longer Will Reid Coach?
In a recent interview on The Insiders with Judy Battista, Reid was asked about his coaching future and how long he expects to be on the sideline alongside Mahomes.
“As long as his window is open,” Reid quipped. “He might play ’till he’s 40, that would put me on a cane. We’ll see how all of that goes. I don’t know, I like doing what I’m doing and I like it right now, so I’m happy.”
While 73-year-old Pete Carroll has shown that head coaches can remain in the game well into their 70s, Reid, at 66, hinted that he has at least four to five more years left in him. With Mahomes still in his prime and the Chiefs continuing to reload their roster, Reid doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Moving Forward After Super Bowl LIX
Despite Kansas City’s sustained success, their Super Bowl defeat to the Eagles stung. The Chiefs were outplayed in key moments, and Reid acknowledged the bitter nature of the loss.
“It was a bad day to have a bad day,” Reid admitted.
However, instead of dwelling on the disappointment, Reid emphasized the importance of self-reflection and learning from failure. He stated that the team will take time to assess what went wrong and make the necessary adjustments heading into 2025.
“Change can happen, and positive things can happen,” Reid said, indicating that the Chiefs will use this setback as fuel for another deep playoff run.
Optimism for 2025 and Beyond
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Reid expressed confidence in the Chiefs’ ability to rebound. He highlighted the addition of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as a key move that could bolster the team’s offensive firepower. He also credited general manager Brett Veach for successfully navigating injuries last season, further solidifying the team’s depth.
With Reid still locked in and Mahomes continuing to perform at an elite level, the Chiefs aren’t going away anytime soon. While retirement rumors will inevitably follow a coach of Reid’s tenure, his commitment to Kansas City remains firm. As long as Mahomes is leading the charge, expect Reid to be right there with him, chasing more championships.
