Matthew Golden #2 of the Texas Longhorns
Could Texas Speedster Be the Answer to Buffalo’s WR Woes?

The Buffalo Bills head into the 2025 NFL Draft with a clear priority: giving Josh Allen more firepower in the passing game. After a season where no Bills receiver eclipsed 1,000 yards, it’s evident that Buffalo needs to upgrade its receiving corps to keep pace in a competitive AFC.
CBS Sports analyst Ryan Wilson believes the answer could come in the form of Texas wideout Matthew Golden. In his latest post-NFL Combine mock draft, Wilson has Buffalo selecting Golden with the No. 30 overall pick, citing his game-breaking speed and ability to create separation.
“Explosive is the best one-word description for Matthew Golden, who reminded me a lot of Jordan Addison coming out of USC,” Wilson wrote. “He doesn’t have the biggest frame but consistently creates separation at the top of his route, he has legit track speed (10.93 seconds in the 100-meter dash in high school and 4.29 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the combine) and also has return ability. His best football is ahead of him.”
Golden would follow in the footsteps of former Texas standout Xavier Worthy, who made an immediate impact as a rookie with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. If Golden can transition smoothly from college to the pros in a similar fashion, he could provide a major boost to Buffalo’s offense.
While it remains to be seen if Golden can develop into a true No. 1 receiver at the NFL level, the Bills don’t currently have a clear-cut top option. Khalil Shakir is locked in as a solid complementary piece, and second-year wideout Keon Coleman has potential, but Buffalo still lacks a go-to target for Allen.
Adding a dynamic playmaker like Golden would give the Bills a much-needed deep threat and another weapon for Allen to utilize as they look to remain among the AFC’s elite. If Buffalo pulls the trigger on the Texas speedster in April, he could be the missing piece in an offense searching for consistency.
