Set to lead the Cleveland Browns in a playoff run, the veteran quarterback’s story is well-known. From the iconic “couch” incident to his impressive streak of four consecutive 300-yard games and an undefeated 5-0 record in wild card games, Flacco’s achievements are widely acknowledged.

However, Houston Texans’ coach DeMeco Ryans doesn’t rely on pundits or analysts to understand the prowess of the Browns’ quarterback. As a former linebacker who has faced Flacco on the field, Ryans shared insights with Omar Ruiz of the NFL Network.

Ryans informed Ruiz that Flacco still possesses some of the qualities that defined his greatness in the earlier stages of his career.

In his 16th NFL season, Flacco’s arm strength and decision-making, according to Ryans, remain at an elite level.

For the upcoming wild card matchup, Ryans emphasizes the importance of preventing the big plays that Flacco excels in.

In a Week 16 game against Houston, Cleveland initiated with a 53-yard pass to Amari Cooper, setting the tone. Flacco further showcased his connection with Cooper, delivering a 75-yard touchdown during Cooper’s record-setting 265-yard performance. Houston’s strategy revolves around keeping the Browns’ receivers in check and forcing Flacco to opt for shorter, safer passes.

Ryans believes that slowing down the offensive pace increases the likelihood of the Browns making mistakes.

Reflecting on the 2011 Divisional Round, Flacco triumphed over the Texans with a 20-13 victory despite enduring five sacks. Interestingly, that game marked Ryans’ final appearance for Houston before concluding his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

A former NFL Rookie of the Year (2006) and a two-time All-Pro and Pro-Bowler, Ryans is now coaching, and Flacco aims to secure a playoff victory against him for the second time later today.
