Ahead of the AFC Championship Game, the Kansas City Chiefs sign a new starter.

Two players from the practice squad have been added to the 53-man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game versus the Baltimore Ravens.

The team declared on Saturday that Mike Pennel and Keith Taylor would be starting on Sunday. Pennel was anticipated to be elevated because DT Derrick Nnadi was recently placed on injured reserve.

In 40 defensive snaps during the playoff game against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round, Pennel registered two stops and two tackles. He is a seasoned player with lots of postseason experience for the Chiefs, having participated in both Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV.

After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, Pennel signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers in May of that same year. He became one of the undrafted players to join Jayrone Elliott on the Packers roster. In 2014, Pennel participated in 13 games during his first campaign. In 2015, Pennel produced 24 tackles, one sack, forced a turnover, and started five of 16 games.
