Examining the Contenders: Green Bay Packers’ Defensive Coordinator Candidates

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly lined up interviews with four candidates for the role of defensive coordinator: Christian Parker from the Denver Broncos, Bobby Babich from the Buffalo Bills, Aden Durde from the Dallas Cowboys, and Brandon Staley, former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Which candidate would you prefer to see orchestrating the green and gold’s defensive strategies in 2024?

A brief overview of each contender follows:

Staley comes from the Vic Fangio coaching lineage, which shares connections with Joe Barry’s defensive system in Green Bay. While Barry employed his distinct style, often utilizing 5-man fronts with Cover 3 schemes, he previously coached Staley’s linebackers during the latter’s tenure as defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. Reports suggest that Staley has already lined up interviews for defensive coordinator positions with the Miami Dolphins and the Packers.

Babich, the son of a respected NFL coach who previously served as the team’s defensive coordinator, is another candidate. Like Staley, he has interviewed for defensive coordinator positions with the New York Giants, the Packers, and the Dolphins. Additionally, he has been linked as a potential successor to Leslie Frazier as the Bills’ defensive coordinator. Buffalo has been recognized for its zone defense tactics over the years.
