Changes in the New York Jets’ Front Office and Coaching Staff

Rex Hogan's second tenure with the Jets has concluded, while Shawn Jefferson's has commenced.

In recent days, several changes have surfaced within the Jets’ front office and coaching staff.

Assistant general manager Rex Hogan’s departure from the team was reported by Connor Hughes. Hogan has been a subject of scrutiny among certain segments of the fanbase due to the team’s lack of success during his two stints with the organization. Initially hired by Mike Maccagnan in 2015 as director of college scouting, Hogan left after two years to join the Colts’ front office before returning to New York upon Joe Douglas’s hiring. However, assessing Hogan’s exact level of responsibility for the team’s on-field performance, given his position below the general manager, remains challenging.

While some have speculated that Hogan’s departure is linked to a critical article from The Athletic portraying the team unfavorably behind the scenes, Rich Cimini clarifies that this isn’t the case.

On the coaching front, the Jets have filled their vacant running backs coach position with Tony Dews, who previously served in the same role with the Titans. Dews has prior experience working alongside Jets offensive coaches Todd Downing and Keith Carter, likely receiving commendations from them.

Additionally, the Jets are welcoming back a familiar face as their wide receivers coach. Shawn Jefferson, who previously held the same position with the Jets in 2019 and 2020, will rejoin the team. Following his tenure with the Jets, Jefferson spent two seasons in Arizona before joining Carolina last season.
