Rumors:AFC Coaching Notes: Chargers, Dolphins, Colts, Addae, Day, Browns, Bills, and Dickerson

Bill Callahan was released by the Browns from his $3MM+ deal to move to Tennessee and live with his son Brian. Considering Bill Callahan’s standing as one of the NFL‘s top offensive line coaches, Cleveland’s staff was left empty by this. One of the applicants the team interviewed for the OC position will fill it. Albert Breer of SI.com tweets that Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson will approach the Browns in the same way. One of the former Sean McVay employees who moved to Seattle with Shane Waldron was Dickerson, who was hired by Ken Dorsey.

In 2022, Dickerson received a promotion to O-line coach with the Seahawks. Pete Carroll was relieved of his long-standing head coach position, and the Seahawks allowed their coaches to confer with other teams. Furthermore, Roy Istvan is joining the Browns as their Jahleel Addae, a recently retired safety, will take a coaching role in the NFL again. Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports that the former starter for the Chargers will now coach cornerbacks for the Bills. The 34-year-old Addae had worked for the Miami Hurricanes. Over the course of his nine year career, Addae started sixty-three games, the majority of them while he was a Charger.

John Butler, the DBs coach, is not returning to the Bills, according to tweets from Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News. Butler has coached Buffalo’s wide receivers since 2018. The Bills are making some adjustments, including sending Bobby Babich to Washington, DC. Matt Edwards’ appointment as the team’s assistant D-line coach will be another. Marcus West, who took Eric Washington’s place as D-line coach, was recently promoted by the organization. Edwards was formerly employed as a NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo writes that Harbaugh will bring Day back to the Bolts as their quarterbacks coach. Under Day, Justin Herbert started for the AFC in the Pro Bowl in 2021, and Garafolo notes that the standout quarterback liked working with Day. However, after the Bolts’ wild-card failure in Jacksonville, Brandon Staley fired both Lombardi and Day. The seasoned assistant had two distinct stints with the 49ers, although none of them took place during Harbaugh’s tenure in San Francisco.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Sanjay Lal is also joining the Chargers as their wide receivers coach. Lal has been coaching wide receivers in the NFL since the late 2000s. His time with the Bills from 2015 to 2016 coincided with that of new Bolts offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Lal most recently served as the WRs’ coordinator for the pass game.
