Breaking News: Michigan football loses yet another outstanding athlete.

The task ahead for Sherrone Moore, the new head coach of Michigan football, has become even more challenging with the departure of another highly regarded assistant, Steve Clinkscale.

Just as it seemed like Michigan football was making strides towards stability this offseason, the team has encountered another setback on the coaching front with the departure of Steve Clinkscale. According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Clinkscale is leaving the Wolverines to join the Chargers.

This decision comes as a surprise, as Clinkscale had previously informed players and coaches that he would be staying with the team earlier in the week. While Jim Harbaugh had expressed interest in retaining Clinkscale, financial considerations appeared to be a sticking point.

However, it appears that this obstacle has been overcome, leading to Clinkscale’s departure. This move follows the exits of Ben Herbert, Mike Elston, Jay Harbaugh, and Jesse Minter from the coaching staff.

The status of Mike Hart remains uncertain, and the entire defensive coaching staff is undergoing turnover. While Wink Martindale’s hiring was seen as positive, concerns arise regarding his recruiting abilities, especially with the departure of the Wolverines’ top recruiters on defense.

Sherrone Moore faces significant challenges ahead. Additionally, key players in the secondary and defensive line have lost their position coaches. Michigan football notably achieved three consecutive top-20 pass defenses under Clinkscale’s leadership. The decision not to promote him to defensive coordinator may have signaled impending changes.

The situation surrounding Mike Hart’s role is unclear, and there’s a complete overhaul happening with the defensive coaching staff. While Wink Martindale’s appointment was initially viewed positively, there are concerns about his recruiting capabilities, particularly following the departure of the Wolverines’ top defensive recruiters.

Sherrone Moore is confronted with substantial obstacles ahead. Moreover, essential players in the secondary and defensive line are without their position coaches.

Under Clinkscale’s guidance, Michigan football notably achieved three successive top-20 pass defenses. The decision to overlook him for the defensive coordinator role may have hinted at upcoming alterations.
