Eli Gold recently opened up about his departure from the University of Alabama football radio broadcasts, indicating that he had a sense that something was amiss with his status with the Crimson Tide Sports Network. Despite his return to health after battling cancer, he felt a shift in his role, with his travel schedule being reduced. This led him to suspect that changes were imminent.

Gold’s contract was ultimately not renewed, and he described the parting as “not an amicable ending.” He expressed disappointment at not being able to continue for another full season as he had proposed, indicating that there were aspects of the situation that he wished to address publicly but was unable to.

Initially, the press releases regarding his departure suggested he was retiring or stepping down, which Gold clarified was not the case. He was offered the opportunity to attend the A-Day Game and was to be honored for his 36 years of service, but he countered with a proposal for a final full season, which was not accepted.

Despite the circumstances, Gold remains a fan of the University of Alabama and expressed gratitude for his time with the team. He received a heartfelt voicemail from former Alabama coach Nick Saban, but did not hear directly from Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne about his departure. Gold is now focused on moving forward while cherishing the memories and connections he made during his tenure as the “Voice of the Crimson Tide.”
