The Seattle Seahawks are looking forward to a promising future under the leadership of defensive mastermind Mike Macdonald. With such a coach at the helm, it’s no surprise that significant resources are being dedicated to strengthening the team’s defense, aiming to make it impenetrable in the NFL.

To create room in their salary cap, the Seahawks have reportedly parted ways with Jamal Adams, who was not meeting expectations, freeing up valuable cap space.

In further offseason maneuvers, the Seahawks have secured a long-term contract for one of their key defensive contributors, solidifying his position as one of the team’s cornerstone players.

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly considering offering Leonard Williams a three-year contract worth $50 million.

According to Sam Robinson of Pro Football Rumors, the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly keen on extending a three-year contract to defensive end Leonard Williams, intending for him to become a cornerstone of their defense.

General Manager John Schneider revealed on Thursday, in an interview with 710 ESPN Seattle via The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar, that the Seahawks are currently in discussions with Williams’ representatives regarding a new deal for the impending free agent. The Seahawks acquired Williams from the Giants last year at the trade deadline in exchange for second- and fifth-round picks.

Given that Williams has already been franchise-tagged twice by the New York Giants during his tenure with them from 2021 until the first half of the 2023 season, the Seahawks are unable to use the franchise tag on him. However, since Williams is considered crucial to the defensive plans led by Mike Macdonald, they are determined to offer him a substantial contract.

Leonard showcased exceptional performance for the Seahawks last season despite playing only 10 games. He recorded 4.0 sacks, 24 solo tackles, nine tackles for loss (TFLs), 11 quarterback hits, and one pass deflection. Such impressive stats have undoubtedly convinced coach Macdonald of his value to the team.

It’s intriguing for the Seahawks to pursue an extension for Williams, especially after granting Daron Payne his own extension last year. However, facing talented quarterbacks like Brock Purdy, Matthew Stafford, and Kyler Murray in the NFC West underscores the importance of a formidable pass rush. If Williams’ presence can disrupt opposing quarterbacks enough to force errant throws, his contract extension will undoubtedly prove its worth.
